Passionate in her belief that the arts should be available and accessible to all, Joanna has developed a variety of work for both young people and the elderly.

Through her work with Baseless Fabric Joanna has created a highly successful programme of Opera Taster Workshops offered to South London schools to give young people a first experience of opera in a fun, engaging way. These have been running successfully since 2016 and have frequently had 30 schools on the waiting list. Joanna created the format, leading some of the workshops herself before training other practitioners to lead them. She also created an After School Opera Club programme, a 7 month project to give a small group of young people an indepth creative experience writing and creating their own production inspired by a classic opera. Joanna is passionate about these projects inspiring young people and developing skills such as confidence, focus, creativity, working as a team and working individually.

She has also worked as a practitioner with young people at the Orange Tree Theatre, Hackney Music Development Trust, Young Vic Theatre and directed students and non-professional adults at Leeds College of Music, Morley Opera, City Academy and University of Carlisle amongst others.

Joanna also developed a concert series for Baseless Fabric to engage elderly people in carehomes with the power of music, particularly as outdoor events in gardens & carparks during Covid. There is extensive medical evidence that music benefits health, psychological well-being and cognitive functions, and 98% of residents and staff reported an improvement in mental wellbeing from our performance.

Joanna also loves inspiring other practitioners and so has led opera Skills Sharing Workshops with Baseless Fabric to give drama practitioners an insight into opera and previously led events for the Young Vic Creators programme collaborating with musicians and designers.
